Focal Length
A photographic lens's focal length is the distance between the rear nodal point of the lens when focused to infinity and the film or sensor of the camera. As an object moves closer to the camera, a longer distance is required between the rear nodal point and the imaging surface. Lenses with a shorter focal length give a wider angle of view.
